Should I talk about problems at home on college applications?
I'm a high school senior doing college applications. Throughout my high school career I've dealt with multiple issues (parental separations, alcoholism, substance abuse and more) in which my parents/family have created a difficult environment at home. This hasn't really had an affect on my grades at any one particular time, but it has definitely increased what's been on my plate. Should I include this stuff on my college applications to give universities/colleges a perspective on what I've had to deal with or would it be best to just leave such problems alone? If I should talk about it, where and how? I don't doubt that my chaotic home has at least slightly hurt my abilities to juggle school, sports and other activities, but I am not a big fan of trying to evoke sympathy from institutions to increase my chances. Thanks for all responses!
