Snowboarding on a dry ski slope? ?

I have been snowboarding on snow before but am not very good and still need to edge quite a lot to slow myself down. Can you do this on a dry ski slope or do you have to just go straight down? They are made of rubber aren't they with water spraying onto the slope? I can't work out how edging would work on that kind of surface. I would love to go to a snow dome but they are expensive, hard to get to and not v good environmentally...
