Many cities have gay social groups for young people. Look up the local gay community center in your phone book and call them for info. You are correct about being careful with people you encounter on the internet. Many people online are not at all who or what they say they are, and some of them are predators and freaks. If you decide to communicate with strangers this way, just don't give out too much identifying information such as your last name or address or phone number. And also be cautious about giving out links to your myspace page if you have one. I've seen kids do this a lot and it is unwise, because the page contains a lot of details about them, where they live, hang out, go to school, etc.---which can be quite dangerous nowadays. If you agree to meet up in person with anyone you encountered online, do it in a public place where plenty of people are around, and don't go alone. I'm not trying to freak you out because there are lots of young people like yourself online looking for friends just as you are. But you just can't be too careful these days.
